New homes in South Africa must be enrolled with the NHBRC before construction starts, under the Housing Consumers Protection Measures Act — so this is not optional for a new build, and you should ask any contractor for it.

No. We come out, look at the job properly and quote it in writing — detailed pricing and a material schedule before any work starts. There is no obligation to go ahead.

One contract from start to finish, with tiling and paving included rather than quoted as separate trades. The same team runs the whole job, so you are not coordinating a tiler, a plumber and a painter yourself, and there is one person accountable for the result.

Yes — both. Recent commercial work includes a school hall strip-out and refit. Residential runs from single-room renovations through to full new builds.

It can, and the terms are explicit about when. Quotes are based on the information you give us and a reasonable visual inspection, so the price may change if the scope, the site conditions or material costs turn out different from what was quoted. Renovations in particular expose the previous trade's work. Anything material is discussed with you before the extra work is carried out — never invoiced as a surprise.

For a new build or a structural addition, yes — council-approved plans are required before a single brick goes down, and approval timelines vary by municipality. We can look at the job and tell you what your particular project needs before you spend money on drawings.
